The Early Years
The Crayon Shinchan manga began its run in April 1990 in the first issue of Weekly Manga Action. The early chapters of the manga were collected into tankōbon volumes by Futabasha, with the first volume being released in September 1990.
By 1992, the manga had been adapted into an anime television series produced by Shin-Ei Animation. The anime series began airing on TV Asahi on April 13, 1992 and is still ongoing to this day. To date, there have been over 920 episodes of the anime series produced. 2001 also saw the release of the first of many live-action films based on Crayon Shin-chan. Entitled Action Kamen vs Haigure Maou, the film was a crossover between Crayon Shin-chan and another popular Japanese franchise called Action Kamen.
