About Formula One
Formula One is the highest class of international racing for open-wheel single-seater formula racing cars. It is sanctioned by the Fédération Internationale de l’Automobile, or FIA, and has been around since the 1950s.
Formula One races are typically held on purpose-built circuits, although some races are held on public roads. The race itself consists of multiple laps around the circuit, with the drivers vying for position in the hopes of crossing the finish line first. The cars themselves are incredibly technologically advanced, with teams spending millions of dollars every year designing and building faster, more efficient machines.
There are currently 10 teams on the Formula One grid, each fielding two drivers. Each team constructors their own car, which must comply with strict FIA regulations regarding size, weight, and power output. The driver who finishes the season with the most points is crowned world champion.
Interestingly, while most other sports have teams from all over the world competing against each other, Formula One is unique in that there is only one constructor’s championship. This means that while there may be multiple driver’s championships (i.e. one for Mercedes-AMG Petronas Motorsport and one for Scuderia Ferrari), there can only be one constructor’s championship per season.
